San Antonio PULSE Committe

 Become an online fundraiser!

PULSE SA is the American Heart Association’s young professional committee in the San Antonio Area striving to engage friends and coworkers to educate, inspire, and develop the habit of philanthropy dedicated to changing the health of a new generation.

The PULSE SA Committee supports the AHA mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases. PULSE SA promotes heart health through various group activities focused on fitness, nutrition and raising much needed funds.  Each of the PULSE SA committee members is dedicated to spreading the word about heart disease, stroke and the impact that it has on the community. Through their events, PULSE SA, is able to help fund research advocacy provided by the AHA.

Why the Heart Ball? For more than 30 years the San Antonio Heart Ball has been a celebration of the good work of the American Heart Association right here in our community.  For one night each year, the American Heart Association has an audience of decision makers from across San Antonio. It is an opportunity to not only raise critical dollars to support the AHA mission but also create life-saving awareness. In 2015, the SA PULSE Committee hosted the inaugural “Heart After Party” as a festive compliment to this classic event.

Committee Meetings- We make a goal of meeting at least once a month to strategize how to reach out to the community and plan for the Heart Ball “Heart After Dark Party”.

YOUR DOLLARS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Since 1924, we have been saving lives in our community by working with schools, hospitals, community centers and other local stakeholders.

We have set a 2020 Impact Goal of improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke by 20 percent.

We will accomplish it because our research and educational programs help people live stronger, longer lives and build healthier communities in San Antonio and beyond.

  • In 2015, the AHA funded over $2.3 million in research grants in the San Antonio area.

  • Research funded by AHA has yielded: CPR, artificial valves, clot-busting drugs, pacemakers, angioplasty,          bypass surgery, and medicines to control high blood pressure and cholesterol.

  • 13 Nobel Prize Winners have received funding from the AHA.

  • The AHA advocates for better public health at the national, state and local levels. Issues include requiring      physical education in schools, clean air legislation and making AEDs mandatory in public buildings.

  • Without action, the number one national security threat will be young adults (18-24 years old) not being fit enough for entrance into the military.
